My mom at the age of 57 ran her second marathon. My brother is a World Cup and Olympic ski racer. My father went to Olympic Trials for bike racing. My sister was team captain for the Colorado State swim team. Yes, I come from an extremely athletic and active family. So when you see me in public yelling at the Blazer game or hopefully gloating and cheering for them, you can understand where this comes from.
Though my competitive athletic days ended when I was about 16 when I started taking interest in creative writing, poetry and other art classes at Mead High School in Spokane, Washington. My urge to get outside and seek adventure was and is still there. Free skiing and photography became my main fuel. After high school I spent a year at University of British Colombia, which was amazing and so was the great student passes for Grouse Mt. and Whistler/Blackcomb. Yet, the giant classrooms led me towards the smaller and more personalized Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA. It was a perfect fit for me down there, and the surfboard took place of the skis for many days. An internship for a portrait mountain photography business at Mammoth kept me well enough in the ski mode. My photography grew more and more towards the outdoors and nature genre. Around the time of graduation a job opportunity came up for me to work with world-renowned photographer, Jim Brandenburg (3rd cousin once removed). It was quite a change living in Ely, MN as well as a humbling and great learning experience. Since that job I have moved back to the west coast. I try to capture images as much as I can, and also work other part time jobs to help pay the bills. I hope that my adventures and photography will soon be my full time job. My creative, open-minded and technically diverse photography lends itself to limitless projects.
I plan on updating my blog as much as possible and hope you enjoy.
